A spring baby definitely means hedging your bets when it comes to the weather. Tiny babies need to be kept warm as a priority and with fluctuating temperatures, you’ll need to be prepared for showers and cold temperatures, as well as warmer, sunnier days.

Layering is the key here and we have all the essentials for keeping babies cosy and comfortable. You’ll definitely want an all-in-one pram suit, the perfect outerwear for moving baby from home to pram to car without any chilly blasts. Cotton vests under babygrows are a given as are soft hats and booties, for top-to-toe temperature regulation. Whether you’re planning on hunkering down and nesting for weeks or heading out on adventures as soon as you can, we have everything here to make sure you’re all prepared and off to a fantastic start.

Soft and comfortable everyday essentials

Discover our collection of designer babygrows

Choosing clothing made from natural fibres will help to keep your baby comfortable, whatever the weather. Cosy cotton babygrows are hugely popular with parents and babies, making the perfect all-in-one outfit for your baby to relax in during their first few months of life. Babygrows are also great for making nappy (and outfit) changes as quick and simple as possible, which is another reason why babies tend to live in them day and night. Opt for babygrows layered over vests for the cooler days and switch to rompers as the temperatures rise.

Baby Coats

Padded or knitted baby coats are the perfect option for adding a warm layer on those early pram outings. For newborns it is better to avoid more restrictive coats as they can be tricky to get on and off and manoeuvring delicate arms through sleeves is something you want to make as easy as possible. Look for generous cuts, stretchy fabrics and simple fastenings that will make life so much easier when you're dressing your little one for a journey. Discover our range of easy-to-wear, stylish baby coats for your newborn's first outdoor adventures.

Pram Blankets

The perfect size for newborn babies, pram blankets offer an extra layer of warmth to keep your little ones comfortable. Ideal for using in the pram as well as at home, adding and removing layers has never been easier. We love the lighter options for the spring season which can be used in addition to a pramsuit on colder days or with a baby coat in the warmer spring weather.

Top to toe

Keep the warmth in and the cold out with sweet bonnets and booties

Seasonal Hats & Booties

Even as the weather improves, having the right hat for a baby is essential for keeping their little bodies at the optimum temperature when out and about. As the days get warmer, avoid thicker hats to prevent overheating and opt for a lighter or knitted option. We have a great selection of sweet baby bonnets as well as sun hats. Babies also lose a lot of body heat through their feet so keeping little toes warm is so important, especially for newborns. Baby booties provide more padding and warmth than socks alone, not to mention that they look incredibly cute! Choose a neutral pair for easy styling with any outfit. These are the tiny keepsake items you'll look back at in years to come.

For the cooler days in spring and when out and about in the open air, pramsuits are wonderful for wrapping your baby up warm, whether they are in the bassinet or a baby carrier. Keeping their whole body cosy, pramsuits are much lighter than snowsuits and often more comfortable for baby to wear. If you're heading out, don’t leave home without one. Occasion pieces

It's very likely that there will be a special event that crops up during those first few months with your newborn, when you might want to upgrade from a babygrow. Make it easy for yourself by using the layers you already have (bodyvests, coat, neutral booties and so on) and simply add a sweet dress or buster suit – you can always add tights and a pretty baby cardigan if it's a little bit chilly.

Swaddle and feed with soft muslins

Must-have muslins for new parents

Swaddle muslins

Never underestimate the power of a muslin. These multi-tasking soft squares of fabric are on every parent’s must-have list for a reason. Use them to swaddle, for protecting shoulders during burping, as a make-shift bib, as a feeding blanket, as a sheet, a pram lining or even to create shade over your buggy! The options are endless and so are our beautiful designs from the likes of Liewood, aden + anais and Sophie la Girafe. We also love aden + anais' muslin Burpy Bibs that are excellent for protecting shoulders during burping and can be used as bibs or even hats with their clever snap fastenings.

Swim essentials

Taking your baby swimming for the first time is such a special experience and luckily with babies born in spring, you won't need to worry about frosty outdoor temperatures when you leave the pool. Choosing suitable and comfortable swimwear for babies is so important – they will need space for a water nappy underneath and a snug fit around the waist and legs. Discover our extensive range of swimwear for babies and don't forget a cosy hooded towel for drying them off once you're out of the water.
