The Novelty Knit
For the tinsel twirlers and the candy-cane enthusiasts, a Christmas jumper isn’t a Christmas jumper without a little extra pizazz. Jolly snowmen, rockin’ reindeer and nostalgic nutcrackers are the stars of this year’s show, knitted in the softest woollen yarns.
Undeniably festive and lots of fun, these designs are perfect for Christmas Jumper Day, which we celebrate here in the UK on the 7 December, or the annual family Christmas card photoshoot. Say cheese! And when it comes to quality, there’s nothing novelty about these beautiful jumpers. They can be worn, loved, washed on repeat, and passed down to younger siblings to enjoy year after year.

Festive Fair Isle
If they like their jumpers with a touch more tradition, then a Fair Isle knit will be at the top of their Christmas list. The sweater’s distinctive pattern was first created in the early 19th century on the remote Scottish island of Fair Isle, and was designed as a pattern for the local fishermen’s caps and sweaters. Thanks, in part, to a few royal appearances, it soon became popular around the world and continues to be a festive fixture in our winter wardrobes.
As well as being cosy, classic and oh-so cheery, one of the very best things about this style is that it can be worn right through to spring. Moncler Enfant, Molo and KENZO KIDS have gone all out with row upon row of colourful, geometric patterns. And for a subtle take, Dr. Kid jazzes up a simple sweater with a few perfectly placed Fair Isle flourishes.

The scene is set: stockings are hung by the fire, bow-wrapped gifts sit under the tree, and Santa Claus is on his way. The big day has arrived and there’s nothing quite like a classic Christmas jumper to add some jolliness to the festivities. Cue the photo opportunities.
From bears bearing gifts to traditional tartan patterns, these styles will have your little drummer boys and girls feeling merry and bright. Beatrice & George’s luxurious cashmere and Merino wool design is full of charm, thanks to its nostalgic train motif and sweet button detail. It’s also exclusive to Childrensalon, so if you’re looking for a special gift, this might just be it.
