Hello Sunshine | Styling Yellow with Keely Deininger from Angel's Face
Summer's here which means one thing - bold, bright shades! This is the time of year when anything goes - cheerful colour palettes, tropical patterns and a host of vibrant designs fitting of the season. One of our favourite colour trends - yellow, comes along every so often as a trend for any given season, however summer is the time it comes into its own.
One designer who weaves this signature colour into her summer collections is Keely Deininger, Creative Director and owner of girls-only brand, Angel's Face.
We caught up with Keely to get her top three tips on how to wear summer's hottest hue, together with a selection of outfits that compliment this season's most fun colour.
Keely says ...
"There is never a reason not to pass on a smile and this is what sunshine yellow does. I personally love yellow and have never had a bad day when wearing it. Hold your head high and dish out the smiles - everyone will notice how happy you are, not because of the fun happy-go-lucky nature of the colour, but because everyone you interact with will give you a smile and you'll give one back"
1. Colour Pop
ONCE YOU POP, YOU CAN'T STOP!
Yellow, especially this bright daffodil version isn't for everyone. I defy anyone not to feel happy when wearing this shade, however if it's not something you're comfortable choosing, try introducing yellow as a welcome pop of colour to dark outfits. Never one to shy away from colours and patterns, this fabulous black top and shorts set breaks those rules, however the delicate gold spots give it a touch of something special. Black and navy are the ultimate shades to get yellow to pop - go for a little Angel's Face hair bow or choose a bag like this adorable version from Fun & Fun.
"A fun yellow accessory such as a bag, hair bow or a pair of shoes is the perfect way to make an outfit pop!"
2. Colour Clash
GO FOR BOLD
Clashing colours shouldn't really work but some colours were made to mix and cause a bold style statement. Pink and yellow and subsequently lilac and yellow are perfect colour combinations. New for summer, our daffodil yellow Savana shorts are made from the softest cotton jersey and the easy to wear, retro style makes them great for lounging in luxury. The image above was taken at our Angel's Face SS'20 shoot last year and the colours are one of my favourite combinations. So fresh for summer, I like how we took one of our traditional tutus and styled it with this cool Shelane logo sweatshirt in watermelon pink.
"I'm not one for half measures so it's a no to toning it down with neutrals - clash it with a smile and sunglasses!"
ANYTHING BUT MELLOW
Colour blocking is a trend that comes and goes and when styling just one colour, it's important to do it seamlessly with an exact shade match. If you ask me, yellow is a colour not to be worn in half measures and this bold, bright daffodil shade is the perfect summer hue. As the image above shows, you can't beat a matching co-ord like this Sheland sweatshirt and Savana shorts. Simply grab your sunglasses and you're ready to go!
"I am a big believer in the full on yellow colour block - hit them with the colour of happiness!"
