Celebrating Eid with @zeinahnur

Eid is the perfect occasion to get all dressed up! We join mum-of-two Zeinah and her children, Liyana and Malik, as they celebrate Eid in their best Childrensalon outfits.

"Fashion has always been something I’ve loved, and dressing the kids for special moments like Eid is one of my favourite parts.”

Hi, my name is Zeinah! I’m a London mum of two, Malik who is 12 and Liyana who is 7, and most of what I share online is just our life together: motherhood, cooking at home, school runs, and the occasional travel.

For us, Eid is all about family, gratitude and celebrating the beautiful day together after Ramadan. And the night before Eid is always busy but in the best way. I'm usually decorating the house, blowing up balloons and wrapping presents, while the kids try their best to avoid going to bed. There’s a lot of excitement in the house!

Sweet Sibling Moments

"I do like to plan their outfits ahead of time; I like to do a bit of colour coordinating with them."

"I usually look for pieces that feel elegant, festive but still comfortable enough for a full day of celebrating."

As they get older, the kids have a big say in what they wear on the day. Liyana really enjoys the whole getting ready part and loves choosing her own outfits, whereas Malik is a bit more low-key, but he still cares about looking put-together, especially on Eid. At 12, Malik knows what he likes and doesn’t like now – and isn’t afraid to voice it. He prefers outfits that feel grown-up and comfortable rather than anything too flashy and restrictive. Liyana loves anything a bit more magical, sparkly and showstopping. She chose the gorgeous dress from Junona herself, and Malik went for Ralph Lauren.

What I love about their outfits this year is that they feel really special but still comfortable. Liyana’s Junona dress is exactly the kind of dress she loves for Eid, beautiful details, bold, sparkly and PINK! Malik’s look from Ralph Lauren is very much his style, smart and simple. Both outfits are comfortable, beautiful and perfect for a whole day of celebrating.

Malik Says . . .

"I like my outfit because it looks good but it’s still comfortable. I don’t like outfits that feel hard and I can’t move around comfortably in."

"Eid mornings are always very exciting and slightly chaotic!"

The kids wake up super early on Eid mornings with one thing on their mind, getting their hands on their presents and seeing the decor set up. We head to the mosque for Eid prayer, come home and enjoy a family breakfast together, then we get dressed and usually take lots of photos before heading out to see family. There’s always a lot of laughter and people moving around the house getting ready – it’s one of those mornings that just feels really joyful.

Liyana Says . . .

"My dress is my favourite because it’s so pretty, sparkly and I can do a big spin in it!"

"It’s a time for generosity, checking in on family and thinking about those who may need a little extra kindness."

London is such a diverse city and you really feel that during Ramadan and Eid. The kids are allowed to take the day off school and when they go back, their school actually holds a little Eid celebration where everyone can learn about it and celebrate together, and parents are invited too. I always think it's really lovely; it makes the children feel proud and seen.

For me, Eid is always a reminder to slow down and be grateful for the people around you. Whether it’s a big gathering or something simple at home, it’s really about gratitude, sharing what you can with your friends and family and, most importantly, just being with your loved ones.

"Eid al-Adha is always special for us because it comes at the end of Hajj, so there’s a real sense of meaning behind it."

Just like with Eid al-Fitr, we usually spend a few days celebrating, seeing family and taking time to talk with the kids about why the day is important and what it represents. It’s basically a bigger Eid than the first but at its heart it’s still about gratitude, generosity and being together as a family. And we still very much dress up, and get glam for the day.
