EDITORIAL | April In Paris

There's something enchanting about Paris in the spring. As Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong famously sang, "I never knew the charm of spring.... 'til April in Paris".

With the onset of the new season, we're currently inspired by the chic influences of the city of romance, with three key kids fashion trends - pastels, florals and stripes.

PASTELS

Undeniably the colours of spring, candy-coloured pastel shades inject warmth and sunshine into spring clothes for kids. Choose pastel dresses for girls and take inspiration from famed Paris confectioner Ladurée, with their super-sweet pastel coloured macaroons in shades of pink, lilac, peppermint and lemon yellow. For boys, replace grey, black and darker shades of blue with pale blue and pink, to create the perfect canvas for preppy outfits.

STRIPES

Synonymous with Parisian fashion is the classic stripe in navy blue and white - originating from Brittany north of the capital, it is officially referred to as la mariniére in tribute to its maritime heritage. Made chic by iconic Parisian designer Coco Chanel after featuring it in her 1917 nautical-inspired collection, famed artist Pablo Picasso was regularly photographed wearing this stripe variation. Parisian designer Sonia Rykiel firmly put rainbow stripes on the style map, set against her signature black. Discover this season’s Sonia Rykiel Paris mini me collection for spring outfits for girls, complete with adorable matching accessories such as these cute sunglasses and logo straw bags.

FLORALS

From the soft tones of the peonies favoured by Parisian boutiques and the pretty cherry blossom that lines the streets and parks, to brightly coloured tulips, irises, daffodils and more from the iconic street flower markets, spring is the time of year when the city turns from grey to an explosion of colour. From delicate ditsy prints to full on flower power, mix and match patterns for a modern take on this seasonal kids fashion trend.
