Time for a New School Coat?
A new school year is fast approaching, which means coat season has (un)officially arrived here at Childrensalon. Now, you may think it’s too early to be talking layers, but now's actually the perfect time to begin the search for their back-to-school outerwear.
When considering their new school coat, there isn’t a one-style-suits-all policy. In fact, you may want to consider buying a couple of options to suit the seasons as they change. That’s where we come in! We've got cosy puffers padded with down, lighter-weight jackets for transitional days and preppy classics that will take them from the school run to the playground.
The Classic Coat
For a traditional take on their school coat, opt for woollen styles with classic detailing.
Old-School Charm
Whilst bright colours and cool prints might be on their radar, some school uniform policies may not bend to accommodate. In this case, it’s best to choose a smarter coat option. Think: warm woollen fabrics, silky satin linings and luxurious trims to name just a few.
Loved by the royals, Spanish designer Ancar is well versed in the world of traditional kidswear, and its children’s coats are no different. From the tailored silhouettes to the discreet velvet detailing, these styles work well when paired with their smartest classroom attire — blazer, shirt, tie and perhaps a school hat. The humble duffle has to be on the curriculum too. Not just reserved for walking, talking, marmalade sandwich-eating teddy bears, this timeless piece from Mayoral teams effortlessly with any uniform setup.
The Transitional Coat
Seasons change and so will their school coat. Look out for features like pack-away hoods and reflective trims.
Between the Seasons
As summer turns to autumn, and the forecast becomes more unpredictable, it’ll be time to rethink their choice of coat. Choose a jacket that’s lighter in weight but still offers shelter from those inevitable changes in weather. Take this Hatley style for example. It has a fully waterproof exterior and comes complete with light-reflective patches for extra visibility. It's fully lined too for maximum comfort.
When the outlook is brighter, but it’s not quite T-shirt weather, something sporty that they can throw on over their school sweater will suffice, like this jacket from Ralph Lauren. With its lightweight, water-repellent fabric and clever two-layered system, this design will score top marks for functional style — it’ll take them effortlessly into the weekend too.
The Cold-Weather Coat
When the cold snap sets in, our collection of padded coats comes out. Just add gloves and a woolly hat.
The Big Chill
Next, and quite possibly the most important coat in their school selection, will be an insulated padded style. This is where their outerwear will be working its hardest to keep them warm, dry and sheltered from the elements, and as a parent, you’ll want assurance that their coat is doing its job.
From the slopes to the playground, Moncler is the name to know when it comes to technical cold-weather outerwear. Its signature puffer jackets are filled with lofty down for warmth without the weight and those made with water-repellent outer fabric will keep your little one protected from unexpected showers. For extra coverage, longer styles are ideal for school journeys on foot — a hood is pretty handy too!
