The story of the Sicilian cart

Rooted in its culture and history, the Sicilian cart has become a symbol of Sicilian folk iconography. It dates back all the way to the early 1800s and to this day you'll still see these artistic creations, made from carved wood and intricately painted wheels, scattered across the charming, sunny island of Sicily. It's no wonder designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana first took inspiration from this national symbol in their Spring/Summer 2013 collection. Then once again, reimagined into a kaleidoscopic print splashed across their Summer 2016 collection. It's now back, refreshed for your little one's summer of exploring Mediterranean coastlines.

Majolica in Sun-Kissed Shades

The magic of Majolica . . .

The intricate Majolica design has been a part of Sicily's heart and soul long before it graced this collection. Brought to the island by the Arabs in the 9th century, the art of hand-painted ceramic — known for its vivid colours, floral motifs and elaborate designs — became woven into the very fabric of Sicilian life. It's from this tradition that Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana first reimagined the ancient craft as a bold, joyful print. Now painted in warm shades of red and orange, the Majolica print is worn best during golden afternoons on terracotta-lined piazzas with a gelato in hand.
