World Photography Day | @harunayokota

World Photo Day is fairly self-explanatory; it’s the annual celebration of photography, which in 2020 falls on 19th August. At the intersection of technology and art, photography is an increasingly accessible creative medium. It can be incredibly inspiring to watch children develop their sense of artistic expression in various formats, including taking photos! With that in mind, we gave Haruna of @harunayokota a polaroid camera and asked her to collaborate with her daughter, Hannah, to create a photo series capturing their life as a family.

Haruna lives in sunny California with her family, they have two daughters: Hannah, who is 3 years old, and Nina, who is almost 2 years old. They are currently expecting their third child and of course, an honorary mention goes to their first ‘child’, their precious Boston Terrier, Mugi. Alongside being a full-time parent, Haruna is a business owner and entrepreneur with a background in music, design and modelling.

Haruna says...

For World Photo Day, Hannah chose to capture our family. Currently, with the global pandemic and quarantine, Hannah cannot play with her friends as much as before so this time has allowed her and little sister Nina (and Mugi!) to bond even more. My husband and I are so happy to see this; it’s brought us together and added a whole new meaning to family time for us. I’ve always been a creative person, and Hannah is growing up around that daily and always watching what I do. From designing, creating content, taking photos, and editing, she’s learning a lot from this. Teaching children to be creative and explore is such a vital part of their growth and builds great confidence.

Hannah has been modelling for almost two years and has developed so much confidence in front of the camera. We always enjoy dressing up and taking photos, and that’s something we’ve been doing together with Nina for a while now. It’s a wonderful mother-daughter bonding experience, and as she gets older she’s starting to explore being behind the camera, excited about taking her own pictures of the world. We are thrilled to celebrate World Photo Day with Childrensalon and encourage you all to get snapping and sharing the world that you see.
