Outerwear season has arrived, and the calendar is starting to fill up with invitations and exciting plans. There's so much to do and see; it really is the most wonderful (and busy) time of the year.

A coat should feel just as special as the outfit beneath, so look for luxurious fabrics with a hint of wool to balance comfort with elegance. Add in neat pleats or a velvet-trimmed collar to finish off the look. Her perfect match: a velvet dress complemented by accessories bedecked with bows. And for him, a double-breasted style in a deep jewel tone pairs nicely with a crisp white shirt, tailored trousers and classic black shoes. Together, they’ll feel like the stars of the show. Encore!

Whether they’re practising their triple axel or holding onto the sides like us, a picture-perfect outfit (especially a warm coat) is key.

One of our favourite activities at this time of year is ice skating, but keeping your little ones warm and comfortable makes all the difference. For boys, choose a smart winter coat with a cosy hood or a detachable faux-fur trim. Pair it with preppy corduroy trousers and neat brogue boots for later, when it's time to swap his skates for shoes. For her, a soft faux fur or felted coat layered over her favourite long-sleeved dress will keep her snug on and off the rink. Add thick knitted tights, a snuggly headband, and don’t forget those extra socks and gloves — this way the damp ones won’t stand a chance of spoiling the fun.

It can be such a shame to cover up your best partywear, but sometimes the weather has other plans.
