Choosing a New Coat
Whether your little ones are in need of a practical puffer, an all-weather raincoat or a cosy baby jacket, our collection has it all, and so much more!
Here to walk and talk us through her favourite styles is Zama Lagundoye, Childrensalon’s product copy extraordinaire — there’s not a single item that doesn’t pass through her hands. So, step this way and find the perfect fit for their adventures outdoors.
Cosy Puffer Coats
The ultimate blend of warmth, style and practicality, these styles are a must-have in any coat collection.
ㅤ
A warm puffer jacket is an essential in any kids’ winter coat collection, and our newest designs come in every shape, colour and style imaginable. Shimmery metallics? Have a look at Zadig&Voltaire. Down padded? Moncler Enfant is the designer in the know. Or maybe you’re looking for two coats in one? "The great thing about a reversible puffer is that they can have two different looks and hopefully get more wear out of it as a result," says Zama.
"Puffers are like giant cosy marshmallows. The light and lofty down traps warm air to keep little ones nice and toasty."
When it comes to practicality, a puffer’s best feature is its insulation. You’ll find both natural and synthetic down in our collection, both of which are used to trap heat, while the quilted construction evenly distributes the padding around the body preventing any pesky cold spots. You’ll also find water-resistant and waterproof coatings, and lightweight designs for those in-between seasons.
All-Weather Coats
Don’t let bad weather dampen the day. Throw on a practical coat and they’ll soon be singing in the rain.
ㅤ
If your kids are the outdoorsy type, and puddle-splashing is on the agenda, head to the all-weather rail in our collection. Here you’ll find colourful coats and jackets made from a range of water-resistant, fully waterproof and wind-protective materials to keep little ones warm, dry and covered when the forecast is being temperamental.
“With a waterproof coating and a soft fleece lining, Frugi's printed raincoat will keep them warm and dry on rainy adventures.”
If you want to be sure that their coat will offer maximum dryness in a downpour, look out for our HH (Hydrostatic Head) waterproof ratings. The higher the number, the more protection the material offers, for example, a waterproof rating of 10,000 HH means that a 10-metre column of water can be placed on the fabric without it leaking through. Isn’t that clever? Our collection also features hoods, taped seams and elasticated cuffs to provide extra protection from the elements.
Smart & Stylish Coats
With their pretty details and charming designs, these coats are made to be seen, worn and loved.
ㅤ
With the practical coats covered, we head over to a very special rail that has coats made for very special occasions. Here you’ll find premium fabrics like wool blends, tweed and velvet, not only providing much-needed warmth, but they look charming too. Details like pretty collars and covered buttons will keep little ones looking their best while soft silky linings and tailored cuts mean they’re still comfortable enough to wear.
“Velvet trims and double-breasted fastenings create such a classic look."
“And if you love the 1940s and 1950s, more of our styles are reminiscent of those eras," says Zama. Showstoppers on the rail include Patachou’s navy-blue coat with red piping detail and shiny gold buttons, and this beautiful red coat from Beatrice & George, which is definitely one for a smart occasion thanks to its velvet collar and matching buttons.

Baby Coats
And we haven’t forgotten about the smallest members of the family. Pram coats are designed to keep your baby or toddler cosy and warm from A to B. They are often padded with down, lined with fleece and come with built-in feet and mittens to keep babies completely covered from head to toe. And parents have been thought of too in the design process, with easy-access zippers and practical poppers for changing on the go.
“This knitted style from Mebi is possibly one of the cutest pieces in the collection. It's super warm and snuggly. “
We also have a wide range of adorable baby coats and jackets to layer-up over their outfit, perfect for days out with the family. You’ll find sumptuously soft fabrics, like wool or quilted cotton, for extra comfort against your baby’s delicate skin. Plus, they’re perfect for toddlers too whilst they’re in and out of their stroller.
