Our Favourite Happiness Titles | Children’s Literature

With the festive season having drawn to a close and a new year just beginning, we have pulled together our favourite titles in children’s literature that will bring your little ones joy and focus on the theme of happiness. Giving you the best possible start to 2022, these positive thinking and mindfulness books for kids are wonderful examples of finding joy in the smallest of things and spreading happiness to others.

Where Happiness Begins by Eva Eland

Ages 2-5 years

The second in the series of books by author and illustrator, Eva Eland, Where Happiness Begins is a sensitive introduction to emotional awareness and mindfulness for young children. Both this title and her earlier release, When Sadness is at Your Door, have been widely embraced by parents for giving a physical form to emotions, helping children to identify and understand their feelings, even at an early age.

Pass It On by Sophy Henn

Ages 2-5 years

Award-winning illustrator, Sophy Henn, has both written and illustrated the picture book, Pass It On. The story is kept short and sweet with beautiful illustrations to perfectly compliment the message of finding joy in the most mundane activities and spreading that joy to others that you meet. The book serves as a wonderful introduction to the theme of happiness to the youngest of listening ears and a gentle reminder to older readers that happiness has an undeniably reciprocal nature.

The Little Book of Joy by Joanne Ruelos Diaz

Ages 4+ years

The perfect read for the start of a new year, The Little Book of Joy offers 365 ways to find happiness every day and celebrate that happiness with those around you. An idea for every day of the year, the book is easy to keep on hand and dip in and out of as you journey through 2022. With simple sentiments as well as uplifting activities, each ‘day’ is a quick read for a guaranteed boost of positivity.

Bloom by Anne Booth

Ages 4-8 years

Well-loved children’s author, Anne Booth, has written a sweet and engaging story on finding happiness with her title, Bloom. While the text focuses on a giant flower and each character’s relationship with it, it is in fact the protagonist that ‘blooms’ in the end as he comes to understand the true meaning of happiness and discovers how to engage in positive relationships. The book perfectly illustrates our human ability to change our way of thinking to take on a more positive outlook and reap the benefits that brings with it.
