Hello, Molo

If your little ones are always chasing the next big adventure, then chances are you already know and love this Scandinavian kidswear brand. Born from a vision to let kids express themselves through clothing, Molo sets the benchmark for sustainable, technical and outdoor-ready casualwear for boys and girls that is designed for movement. “Molo is defined by a strong focus on children — how they move, play, and express themselves,” says Rikke, whose husband, Mogens, founded the brand with a desire to step away from predictable kidswear and instead, create clothing with a strong personality. “Our designs combine bold visuals with functionality and durability, so clothes are made to be worn, loved, and passed on.”

The Brand: A Kid's World

Molo burst onto the scene in 2003 with big ideas for kids’ clothing. Since then, the Scandi brand, loved for its free-spirited aesthetic, has been busy creating fashion for kids that speaks their language — the collection is packed with lighthearted motifs and colour pairings that are anything but grown-up. “The Molo kid is curious, confident, and imaginative,” says Rikke. “They’re not afraid of colour or standing out, and they see the world as full of possibilities — their clothes should support that freedom, allowing them to express themselves and feel comfortable being exactly who they are.”

And it was that child-first mindset that led Mogens to turn the idea of Molo into a living, breathing brand, working hand in hand with Rikke. “Molo was created from a desire to challenge how children’s fashion looked and felt,” she tells us. “From the very beginning, the focus has been on designing from a child’s perspective, creating clothes that support play, movement, and self-expression.”

“The Molo kid is curious, confident, and imaginative. They see the world as full of possibilities.”

The Collection: Adventure Ahead

Functionality is at the core of both the brand’s ski and swim collections, which are inbuilt with technical credentials, designed to keep your intrepid adventurers covered in the hottest and coldest of settings. “Children are active in all kinds of environments, and their clothing needs to work across different settings and conditions,” says Rikke, explaining why Molo’s activewear stands out from the kidswear crowd. “Whether they’re on the slopes, by the water, or playing outside closer to home, comfort and functionality are essential.”

She goes on to explain that the design process considers protection and ease of movement, allowing children to enjoy their time outdoors. This can be seen in the brand’s use of technical materials and details, from 3M™ Thinsulate™ insulation and fully waterproof taped seams in their skiwear collection to sun-protective UPF50+ fabrics in their swim designs. So, what sets Molo’s swim and skiwear apart this season?

To the Slopes, and Beyond

“Our skiwear is developed as a dedicated part of our outerwear collection and designed specifically for time on the slopes. Each style is thoroughly developed with the technical details, safety considerations, and durability needed for long, active days in changing conditions,” says Rikke, and when asked to delve a little deeper into the details, she let her product knowledge and expertise lead the way. “We focus on waterproof and windproof fabrics, breathability, and robust construction that supports movement and comfort. Safety features, carefully considered fits and reinforced areas are essential, as is durability that allows garments to withstand repeated wear. Insulation such as 3M™ Thinsulate™ is used to provide warmth without bulk, helping children stay comfortable and move freely throughout the day.”

“Our Alpine jacket is protective and functional, yet still playful and well designed — children can really move in it.”

Sunny Days, Here We Come

From the slopes to sun-drenched shores, Molo’s swim collection packs the same quality and technical credentials seen in its snow collection into a fun range of bikinis, swimsuits, shorts and sun-safe cover-ups. “This season’s swimwear line was shot in beautiful locations in Tenerife, which perfectly reflects the feeling behind the designs — freedom, warmth, and being comfortable in your own skin,” Rikke explains when we asked what inspired this season’s summer styles. And what about keeping kids safe in the sunshine? “Our UPF50+ styles achieve sun protection through tightly woven fabrics rather than chemical treatments, and the fabrics are lightweight, quick-drying, and soft against the skin. For me, it’s important that swimwear feels easy to wear and allows children to move freely and be themselves, whether they’re in the water or on the beach.”

“Our UPF50+ Niky broderie bikini feels refined, yet still light and comfy — a lovely piece for sunny days by the water.”

The Ethos: Welcome to Planet Kid

As well as creating clothes that kids actually want to wear, Molo's mission is to empower every child to confidently express their unique selves through responsible, contemporary, and playful clothing, thus cultivating a more colourful and inclusive world. Something that sits close to our hearts here at Childrensalon. “Responsibility is part of how we work, not something we claim to have perfected,” Rikke tells us. “We focus on longevity, certified materials, and recognised standards such as GOTS*, GRS*, and OCS*, which help bring structure and transparency to complex processes,” she says.

All Molo clothes are made working hand-in-hand with suppliers and manufacturers to help minimise their fashion footprint. Within the collection you’ll find GOTS-certified organic cotton, which is grown without the use of fertilisers, among other conscious credentials, and recycled materials made from production offcuts and preloved clothes. “For us, certifications are not about claiming perfection,” Rikke continues, “but about having clear frameworks that support responsible decision-making and continuous improvement. We don’t claim to have all the answers, but we’re committed to learning, refining our practices, and being honest about where we are.”
