IT'S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS ...

I’m not too keen on chocolates in calendars - call me the Grinch - so I filled my jars with small presents, inspirational quotes, drawings, cute pictures and just a few bits of Christmas chocolate. You can completely adapt this advent calendar to whoever you are making it for.

My calendar is for my toddler girl and I mixed up a few bigger gifts like a pair of socks by Pretty Originals, a hair bow by Bowtique London, and a super cute bracelet by Souza with little gifts like stickers. I even popped in a few toys I found lying around the house that she hasn’t played with in ages.

After Christmas, put the jars in a storage bin ready to be used again next year. Or wash the numbers of the jars, take the trees of the lids and use your jars to store dried food, pulses, herbs, tea and snacks.

- YOU WILL NEED -

- 25 jars, new food jars or ones from your recycling bin
- 25 bottle brush trees
- Glue dots (or double-sided tape/super glue/glue gun)
- 25 presents - these can be little gifts, notes, drawings, photos, chocolates, etc.
- Marker pen like a Sharpie
- Tissue paper
- Paint (I used Rust-Oleum Painters Touch in black)

- HOW TO MAKE YOUR CALENDAR -

1.
Cover any branding on the jar lids by painting with black Painters Touch. Two thin coats should cover it well enough.

2.
Attach a glue dot to the middle of the jar lid and attach a tree. Use different sized trees for a less uniform look.

3.
With your marker pen, give every jar its number. Mix up the different sized jars, keeping the biggest until last.

4.
Wrap your present in tissue paper.

5.
Put the wrapped present in the jar and close the lid.

6.
Keep doing this with all the other jars until you have your Advent forest.
