September 2023 | This Month We're Inspired By . . .

As the sun sets on another summer, the sound of scribbling pencils and classroom chatter start to fill the air. We love September here at Childrensalon, it’s a month of new beginnings and big adventures. Autumnal colours are starting to peek out everywhere we look, and blackberries are popping up on hedgerows, ready to be picked. This new season, it's all in the details, and we've got hand-finished details aplenty to show you from the likes of Self-Portrait and Beatrice & George. Think delicate lace, smocking and embroidery.

Next up and keeping in the new season spirit, we're delving into Junona's latest collection. Bows, ruffles and layers of tulle set the scene for the not-so-distant party season — it's never too early to get their party outfits started. Meanwhile, Mini Rodini has cooked up some fresh new pieces, featuring the adorable Chef Cat, that will have them feeling cute, comfy and in the mood for food.

Ready, Set, Cook

We love Swedish brand Mini Rodini's offbeat style, and this culinary-meets-cute collection is as bold, quirky and fun as ever. Meet Chef Cat, Cassandra Rhodin's adorable chef-hat-adorned cat who features across dresses, tees, accessories and more. Feeling inspired to get in the kitchen? We know we are.

Since back-to-school is in full swing right now, why not get the kids involved making their lunch? They’ll love the independence and they’ll be extra excited for lunchtime knowing they made it all by themselves (or with a little help, but we won't tell!). Try wraps or pita pockets, easily stuffed with their favourite fillings and popped in their lunch box ready for the next day. Or get creative with fruit and veg by cutting shapes out of kiwi slices, pineapple and, well, whatever you have to hand. A star-shaped cookie cutter goes a long way in making lunch more exciting. And of course, Chef Cat will be lending a helping paw. Speaking of school, the cosy (and recycled) faux fur 'What's Cooking?' jacket is so cool it'll have little ones raring to get dressed in the morning. Anything that makes the school run more fun is a plus in our books. A snuggly detachable hood, big pockets, and the cutest embroidered inside pocket too. What's not to love?

Ruffles and Buttons and Bows, Oh My!

A new season of occasionwear and elevated classics has us zooming in on all the little details. Layers of lace, smocking, beautiful bows, ruffles and buttons: the list goes on and on. And we’re firm believers in dressing up the everyday, because who says we should save our favourite pieces just for the most special occasions?

Did you know that the technique of smocking actually dates back as far as the middle ages? But what is smocking exactly? It’s a combination of pleating and embroidery, once used in place of elastic to gather fabric, and can be done by hand or machine (and it just so happens to look beautiful too). The time and craftsmanship that goes into hand-smocking make pieces like our Beatrice & George buster suit and Kidiwi’s adorable shortie set even more special, so they’re perfect for those big milestone events. Self-Portrait and Petite Amalie know a thing or two about adding that little extra something to an outfit too. Think delicate lace trims, perfectly placed bows and buttons galore — these pieces are made to take centre stage in any wardrobe

A New Season of Occasionwear

Statement colours, decadent details, elegant shapes, it can only be one thing: the undeniable glimmer of party season, and with it comes a brand-new collection from our friends at Junona. And whilst school schedules and suitcase unpacking are still high on the agenda, the invitations will soon start filling up their social calendars, and it’s never too early to get their wardrobe party-ready.

As you would expect from Junona, every item in its latest occasionwear collection is finished to a T with the finesse and sparkle we know and love the brand for. Think twirling around the dance floor in a flurry of floaty organza, or go for gold with sequins and feathers. And it's not all dresses you'll find this season, there are beautiful separates with embroidered collars and accessories laden with embellishments too.
