Outfits For Eid With @asha_lina__

Eid al-Fitr is very dear to us, it’s the feast of breaking the fast. After a month of fasting and going through a spiritual elevation, we give thanks to our Lord by celebrating with friends and family. Eid al-Fitr is all about spoiling our kids with lots of love and presents, good food, appreciating our blessings and being grateful. Eid is a three-day celebration, and definitely my family’s favourite festival. Being a big family with lots of cousins, uncles and aunties, it is very rare we all gather at once. But on Eid we can be sure everyone will show up. My heart is full of love and joy on this beautiful day.

One of the most important traditions on Eid al-Fitr is Salat al-Eid. Salat al-Eid is the special morning prayer that is offered to celebrate the festival. This prayer takes place in the local mosque, but this year due to our lockdown restrictions we won’t be able to participate. Besides that, we won’t be much affected by the lockdown. Eid will be celebrated with close family as we do every year, and we are grateful for that.

Ashalina loves clothes that are comfortable and versatile. She loves to mix and match and is not afraid of colours. If she could, she would wear dresses year long, fluffy and lots of tulle if possible. But I think she is in a phase where she is open to trying new styles. At the moment she has a growing love for denim and loungewear.

Ashalina is a girly girl. There is no such thing as being overdressed! Ashalina, along with her brothers, will start the day wearing traditional Pakistani clothing. The boys will be wearing kurta in plain colours, usually black, brown or white. For Ashalina, I got a purple maxi dress with handmade embroidery. She has requested that later on the evening, she wants to change into the beautiful Dolce & Gabbana dress we were gifted from Childrensalon. The dress with the matching jewelled headband is a perfect fit for the day. It is very in touch with the colours and a look I would normally pick for an Eid celebration. The outfit gives me a feeling of our traditional clothing but with a touch of extra luxuriousness.

As mentioned earlier, Eid al-Fitr is a three-day celebration. Hence, I need to organize three outfits for my kids and myself. The first day of Eid is usually the 'Big Day'. We wear our finest clothing and whatnot. This day, we usually stay at home and eat lots of good food in the company of our nearest family. The second and third day of Eid is more relaxed including some kind of outing, either to a theme park, restaurants or local sightseeing. For me it’s very important that my kids are wearing clothes that are comfortable, but at the same time it has to be festive looking. The Eid vibe needs to be there.

I wouldn’t have Eid al-Fitr any other way, being able to celebrate with your family is a blessing we often take for granted. But one day I would love to celebrate Eid in Pakistan. We have this little pre-Eid celebration called Chaand Raat, it’s basically the night before Eid al-Fitr when the families visit markets to buy sweets and do Eid shopping. The shops will keep their doors open throughout the night, and there will be late-night dining available for the shoppers. Furthermore, it’s a tradition that on this night the girls get henna painted on their hands and they buy matching colourful bangles for their outfits.

I would love to experience that with my family, as we don’t have the same opportunities to celebrate Chaand Raat in Denmark.
