The origin of Mother’s Day dates back to the ancient Greeks and Romans, who held celebrations in honour of the mother goddesses, Rhea and Cybele. Today, Mother’s Day is commonly used as a chance to thank our Mums and other mothering figures for all that they do for us.
In celebration of this special event, we asked little Riccardo, Ava and Suri to draw a portrait of their lovely Mummies @mrssofiagouveia @masha_theone and @coral_pearl to tell us what makes them so special.

Tell us about the portrait you drew.
So in my head, I was thinking of a picture, and you had a hat but I didn’t draw it and you had a stripy blue dress like this but even longer, and I think you were in Venice on a bench. You didn’t have these flower thingys but I just wanted to add them, and then there was a good sun. I drew daddy’s hands taking the picture and I did three hearts, one for you, one for Sienna, one for me, and it says “I love you”.
What is the thing you love most about your mum and why?
I love her because she’s very soft and cuddly and because I love hugging her.
How do you make your mum happy?
By doing good stuff and tidying up my room and reading and doing what she says.
What’s your favourite thing that your mum does for you?
She gives me food because I don’t like cooking, I love cooking with her but not without her.
If you could give your mum a superhero name, what would it be and what would her superpowers be?
Her name would be Superhugs and her superpowers would be giving love and hugs to everybody who needs it.

Tell us about your mum and the portrait you drew?
This is my mum inside her house, she has a beautiful garden full of flowers and she wears my favourite pink dress of hers that I asked her to put on especially for this portrait.
What is the thing you love most about your mum and why?
She makes me the most delicious pancakes, takes me to the beach and loves dancing with me a lot. My favourite thing about her is that she makes me feel safe and happy. She also promised me to keep me little forever.
What makes your mum special?
She’s special because she works hard and she’s very clever and she buys me all the toys I want.
What will you be doing for your mum this Mother’s Day to show how much you love her?
I’d love to buy her roses and makeup to surprise her and take her to the fun fair so we can have lots of fun together for the day.
If you could give your mum a superhero name, what would it be and would her superpowers be?
My mum would be Spider-Woman so she could fight the bad guys to save the good people. She’d be able to fly and jump on the roof shooting spider webs!

Tell us about the portrait you drew.
This is the portrait of my mum, and I did her hair because she is really lovely like rainbows, and she is a superhero. I did the dress with little frilly things but it's actually the shape of the heart, and I really like the little swirls on this.
What is the thing you love most about your mum and why?
I love her because she's got the best cuddles and I like them because they're so squeezy.
If you could give your mum anything in the world for Mother's Day, what would you give her?
Flowers!
How do you show your mum you love her?
By giving her kisses.
If you could give your mum a superhero name, what would it be and what would her superpowers be?
It would be the most rainbow-est girl in all the world, Super-flower Girl! Her superpowers would be to make the rain go away and have rainbows every day!
