Dressing for Eid al-Adha | with @lulu.2013

Eid al-Adha is a Muslim celebration acknowledged around the world. Part of two different Islamic holidays - the other known as Eid al-Fitr - the next one will take place in the UK from Thursday, July 30 and end on the evening of Monday, August 3. Known as the festival of the sacrifice, it commemorates Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son for God.

Whilst families are currently searching for their ideal outfits for the celebration at the end of the month, we caught up with Abeer to tell us all about how she picks the right clothing for her little girl Lulu.

What does Eid mean to you and your family?

There are two Eids a year and we wait for them eagerly. Each Eid has its own characteristics but on both, we spend special times with our families, exchange gifts and distribute candy and money to children (sometimes adults). We also visit relatives and friends, which brings joy and love to the atmosphere. Our next Eid celebration of 2020 is Eid al-Adha.

Talk us through how you celebrate.

The most important thing on the Eid is the smell of Bokhour, elegant decoration, new clothing, chocolate and sweets of all kinds. Also preparing home decorations the night before is very fun with the participation of our children.

How do you dress Lulu for the different Eid activities?

For me, the most beautiful stage to prepare for the celebration is styling Lulu - I always make sure to choose pleasant, cheerful colours and elegant pieces, paying attention to every detail.

Do you have any favourite foods or traditional family recipes you enjoy?

We love the aroma of Maamoul-Dates, which are the most important sweets for me (after chocolate of course) on Eid.

Do you have any traditions unique to your family that you follow?

On Eid, I love surprising my child in presenting her a gift so that it will be different every Eid. Once I made a treasure hunt map and the last Eid was fun, where I bought her tools so she could dig to find her gift in a small container of concrete.

What is the best way to get children involved in the festivities?

The best way to get my daughter to participate in the celebration is by making her participate in hanging decorations, writing the list of gifts that she wishes for, making her participate in choosing Eid clothes, visiting neighbors and relatives, and receiving candy and money is always exciting for her.
