Back to School | Olivia Bennett

Tatler magazine was founded in 1901 by Clement Shorter as an illustrated journal of high society events including balls, shooting parties, fashion and high society gossip.  Today, the British magazine is published by Condé Nast Publications and focuses on fashion and lifestyle. One of their most famous publications is the Tatler Schools Guide, where they introduce the best independent schools in the country to include Prep and Public schools.
To coincide with our Back to School shop, we asked Olivia Bennett, Fashion Market Editor at Tatler for her edit of back to school clothes – picking one outfit for boys and one for girls – to see them start the new term in style.

Girls

For back to school clothes for girls I went for a classic look, sticking to a predominantly monochrome palette with splashes of red and checked prints. I adore this Lapin House blouse with Victoriana inspired black ribbon embellishments, it shows a white blouse need not be dull! I love tartan and checked fabrics, particularly for autumn, and this Il Gufo skirt and Tartine et Chocolat coat are so adorable - I wish they made them in my size. It’s bows galore with these Moschino pumps and Carlomagno socks as you can never have enough! This Monnalisa backpack is perfectly sized for little ones, and who doesn’t want faux fur pom poms?

Boys

For my picks for boys, you can’t go wrong with this red striped Polo Ralph Lauren shirt and it looks great layered under this Dolce & Gabanna jumper. I love the traditional shape of this Burberry satchel - it’s perfect for stowing away the day’s essentials and and these Romano slip-on loafers are perfect for slipping on when trying to rush the children out the door.    As an additional outfit, I chose a Prince George inspired look. Tailored shorts have become his signature style and this Gucci pair look simply made for him. A classic blazer always looks super smart and because this Boss one is jersey, it’s perfect for September when the weather can still be quite balmy and the Falke Argyl socks feel quite royal.
