Problems logging in.
This usually happens for two reasons: the e-mail address and/or the password was entered incorrectly.
If you have entered your e-mail address incorrectly when creating an account, you won’t receive a confirmation e-mail and consequently, your correct details will not be recognised next time you try to sign in.
All payments are processed using world class payment system. In addition to all transactions being encrypted using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology, our payment systems are scanned monthly by an independent Qualified Security Assessor (QSA) and an Approved Scanning Vendor (ASV) for the payment card brands.

What does it mean if my card is declined?
If your Credit Card has been declined it can be for a number of reasons:
- You have written a number wrong.
- You have written the date or security code (CVV) wrong.
- The name and address does not match the address the Bank has on file for you.
- Your Bank have refused it for security reasons.
- There are not enough funds to cover the payment.
If you contact your Credit Card Provider or Bank they will tell you why they have declined it. You can then contact us and let us know, and we will try again.
What is a billing address?
Your ’billing address’ is the address that your bank or credit card provider sends your bills or monthly statements to.
The billing name and address appear on the monthly credit card statement. If you only conduct your credit card billing via the internet, then this will be the address you entered when you registered with your online bank.
Your bank needs this information to be correct as a security measure. When we process your order and charge your card, your bank asks us to verify the address that your card is registered to in order to make sure it really is you. (This is instead of entering your PIN)
What is the CVV and how do I find it?
The CVV (sometimes called the CVD or CVV2) is a feature to give you increased protection against credit card fraud online.
The CVV is the last 3 numbers printed on
the signature strip on the back of the credit card.
The CVV or Security Code is the last 4 numbers printed on the front of the card above the card account number.
What payment methods do you accept?
We currently accept all major credit and debit cards: American Express, Visa, MasterCard, Delta, Switch/Maestro, Solo. We also accept Paypal and Bank Transfer.
For orders paid with Bank Transfer, we are only able to offer a product exchange or refund in store credit.
Please note we do not accept cheques or Western Union payments.

Yes, we are an authorized retailer of all the designers we feature. They are sourced directly from the brands and we guarantee every item to be 100% authentic.
We have been in the business of children’s fashion since 1952 and have a close relationship with all the brands we sell.

How do I know which items are in stock?
All items shown on the website are in stock unless the words "out of stock" are listed next to the product.
If you want to buy a size that has ‘out of stock’ against it, please contact us. We have an excellent relationship with the brands and will do our very best to get more.
Customers with a Childrensalon account can also sign up to the waiting list for a product - simply select your size and click 'Request Item'. When it becomes available, you will receive an e-mail from us.
I have seen something on sale in the shop at a cheaper price
We do special promotions in the shop and also on the website, which are often separate events. For this reason, we cannot guarantee the prices in the shop and on the website will always be the same.
Re-ordering fashion brands
With our fashion brands all the stock is limited and eventually it will sell out over the season, however we are happy to try and get more - we have an excellent relationship with the brands and will do our very best to try and get more. If your size is sold out, please contact us.
With non-seasonal collections we get regular arrivals of new stock. If there is a waiting list for a product, customers with a Childrensalon account can easily join the list by going to the product page, select your size and click 'Request Item'. When the item is available you will receive an e-mail.
The item I bought is now on sale, can you refund me?
It is very difficult for us to know if and when something will go into sale. As a result we are unable to refund the difference if an item goes down in price after you have made a purchase.
Tips about the care of wool garments
Useful facts and knowledge have been learnt by Childrensalon over the years, and we would like to share these with you.
- Clean woollen items before storing to avoid clothing moths.
- The key to not shrinking wool is to never twist it, agitate it, or wring it out. Gently swirl the wool in the water, then rinse and press the water out.
- Wool is an acidic material, so use a mild soap or detergent with as close to a neutral or acidic pH as possible.
- Water temperature when washing wool should be less than 100F (30c). If you wash wool at any temperature over 30 degrees, expect it to shrink!
- Use water which is just warm for washing and rinsing so the wool is not shocked into shrinking.
- You can add a tablespoon or two of white vinegar to the last rinse if you wish (not essential), as this leaves the wool with the correct pH for good condition and softness.
- Squeeze out and roll up in a dry towel to remove excess moisture and dry away from direct heat. On a radiator rack or in the airing cupboard is fine, but not directly on the radiator.
About the fibre
Wool is a natural fibre with many natural organic characteristics. Often those characteristics provide the product advantages you know and appreciate in wool clothing. The perfect example is the warmth created by the tiny packets of air which individual wool fibres trap naturally. But, another characteristic of wool yields the secret of why wool sweaters and clothing knitted from wool yarn can sometimes shrink. The outside of the wool fibre is hydrophobic-hates and repels water. The inside of the wool fiber is hydrophilic-hollow and absorbs water. Even though wool wants to repel water around the fibre, at a certain point of getting wet, it reverses its process of repelling water to absorbing water. When this happens it brings water into it’s core and holds it. To dry - always line or flat dry wool - small pieces (children’s clothes) that don’t get too heavy you can hang up, larger pieces should be dried flat.
What is felting and why does it happen?
Wool ’felts’ because of the raised scales of the cuticle layer of the fibre catching on one another. The fibres in a fleece on a sheep are all growing out of the follicles in the same direction, and generally speaking, they all grow at a similar rate. This means that the cuticle scales (which are a bit like the teeth on a saw, but not that pronounced) are all pointed in the same direction, i.e. they don’t catch on one another. These scales can be seen clearly in electron micrographs.
After the fleece is shorn, the processing stages cause the natural fibre alignment to be completely disrupted. As the fleece is scoured, the "staple" structure is destroyed and the fibres no longer line up "tip to base" as they would in the fleece. They can be in all dimensions and also suffer entangling after scouring and drying, and the purpose of subsequent carding and combing is to remove extraneous matter and disentangle and align the fibres into a parallel arrangement. However the fibres will not necessarily be "tip to base". The scales now can be at ’180 degrees’ to one another, and can catch on one another.
When the fibres are spun, they come in close contact with each other, and the interlocking nature of the scales is what helps keep the yarn together (apart from the twist that is inserted).
Felting occurs in the presence of heat, water and agitation - this acts as a ratchet, tightening the contact between the fibres in the yarn, and then the yarns in the fabric.
Wool’s propensity to ’felt’ is because of the scales on the fibre. Other animal fibres have cuticular scales also, but to different degrees. For instance, the scales on human hair are much flatter. Dreadlocks, are caused by interrupting the usual parallel arrangement of the hair scales. Fine diameter wools are more likely to felt than broad diameter wools because they have a greater surface area, and hence more scales proportionately.
Please be aware there is a difference between a delicate cycle and a wool cycle on a washing machine, do not use the delicates cycle for wool.
It is a very different cycle, there is still too much spinning involved and that is what causes wool to shrink:
warm/hot water & spinning (HEAT, WATER, AGITATION)
Shrink-proofing wool is a chemical treatment which uses chlorine to "burn" off the scales...this doesn’t entirely remove them, but it does lessen their profile, and then the fibres are coated with a resin to smooth the fibre still further.
This allows the wool to be machine washed without felting, and the shrinkage of the fabric associated with felting.
How to wash a beautiful baby shawl
1. Fill a large wash tub, or your bath tub, with cool - lukewarm water.
2. Add a mild soap, such as dishwashing liquid, to the water (no bleach).
3. Place the wool blanket into the soapy water.
4. Allow the blanket to soak for about an hour.
5. Any soiled spots can be gently hand-rubbed in the water to release the dirt.
6. Drain the water from the tub.
7. Refill the wash basin or tub with cool - lukewarm water.
8. Hold the blanket away from the running water, so that the water is not spraying onto the blanket, or it might "felt or mat" that part of the blanket.
9. Allow the blanket to soak in the rinse water for a few minutes.
10. Drain the water from the tub.
11. Squeeze any excess moisture from the blanket.
If drying in your bathroom, you may want to place a few towels under the blanket to catch any excess dripping from the blanket.
What can I do if I have shrunk a wool shawl?
This is just a suggestion, in case of an accident with washing a 100% wool item. Merino wool wouldn’t have this problem.
When wool gets wet and warm, the fibres in the wool lock themselves together and don’t want to let go, resulting in shrinkage, you can get wool warm or wet, but not both.
- Soak the garment in warm water with a mild soap for about 10 minutes.
- This unlocks the fibres in the wool. Then lay the garment out on some towels in a cool place.
- Stretch the garment out to its original dimensions.
- The stretching pulls the unlocked wool fibres away from each other.
- Allow it to dry.
- The absence of heat from the drying process allows the wool fibres to set in place without locking together and shrinking the garment again.
- If a disaster occurs, and you pull a shrunken jersey out of the washing machine which has been run on the correct setting, we advise you to have the thermostat checked by a competent engineer. This may indicate a failure in the your machine’s temperature control

What is Oeko-tex standard 100?
The Oeko-Tex Standard 100 was developed in 1992 and is a universally recognized testing and certification system which reliably informs the consumer that textile products bearing this label are free from concentrations of harmful substances which could pose a risk to his health without having to compromise on functionality, care, properties or style.
Responsibility for the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 is shared between the 17 test institutes which make up the International Oeko-Tex Association, which has branch offices in more than 40 countries worldwide. The criteria catalogue which forms the basis for the tests for harmful substances is based on the latest scientific findings and is continually updated, ensuring that the requirements for the human ecological safety of the textiles tested are more far-reaching every year.
The test criteria and the related test methods are standardized on an international level and are widely included as guidance in terms and conditions of purchase and delivery right through to the retail sector. With a total of over 51,000 certificates issued for millions of different individual products, and over 6,500 companies involved world-wide, the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 has become the best known and most successful label for textiles tested for harmful substances.
The Oeko-Tex label is not only a recognised benchmark for the consumer, it also serves as an additional quality assurance tool for the manufacturer. The concept has become established as a safety standard throughout the textile manufacturing chain and enables checks to be made for any harmful substances at each stage in the production process. The test samples are tested by the independent Oeko-Tex institutes for their pH-value, formaldehyde content, the presence of pesticides, extract-able heavy metals, chlorinated organic carriers and preservatives such as pentachlorophenol and tetrachlorophenol.
The tests also include checks for any MAC amines in azo dyestuffs and allergy-inducing dyestuffs. The use of flame-retardant and biocide finishes is prohibited in the clothing sector. The certificates issued are distributed or allocated in line with the international guidelines and specifications of the Oeko-Tex Test Association.
About VAT tax
VAT stands for Value Added Tax. The current UK rate is 20%.
VAT is a tax that you pay when you buy goods in the European Union (EU), including the United Kingdom. It does notapply to children's clothing, children's shoes, and books. Where it applies, VAT is included in the price of the goods, not added at checkout.
Do I have to pay tax?
Delivering outside the EU
Deliveries sent to customers who live outside of the European Union do not have to pay VAT. We remove the VAT value of 20% from all non-EU orders. This is shown clearly in your shopping basket when you checkout.
Delivering within the EU
Children's clothing, shoes and books do not have include VAT. Where VAT does apply, it is included in the price of the products and will be clearly itemised in your shopping bag.
How do I confirm you have received my order?
We send an e-mail confirmation for every order. You should receive this within 10 minutes. If you do not, please contact us.
If you are a registered customer, you will be able to login to your account and view the status of your order and any comments or emails we have sent you.
Once your order has been shipped, you should receive an e-mail with your tracking number. Please contact us if you do not receive your tracking number.

Can I leave items in my shopping bag and are they reserved?
If you have made an account with us, then any items you place in your basket will remain there if you have logged in. The items will then stay in your basket if you logout.
However, the items are not reserved for you until you checkout. Until then products can still be purchased by another customer, so it is possible the items may have sold by the time you checkout.
Can I change my address after placing the order?
Please let us know immediately if you have made a mistake with your address so we are able to change it for you. Once your order has been dispatched, we cannot redirect it to a different address. Please be aware that it is your responsibility to provide the correct information when placing the order.
