After designing jumpers and maternity dresses for her husbands boutique, Sonia Rykiel opened her first boutique in Paris 1968 which celebrated her 'terribly Parisian style' and revolutionary approach to design. Crowned 'Queen of Knit's in 1970 by american trade paper Women's Wear Daily, Rykiel soon went on to invent inside-out stitching, abolished hems, the first sophisticated tracksuit and little by little emancipated women from fashion's constraints.
