It was in 1952 when Gaby Aghion, an Egyptian-born Parisienne, first established Chloé as the founders of prêt-à-porter. Not only was Chloé the first fashion house providing an alternative to haute couture, she is also credited with the creation of the term prêt-à-porter (ready-to-wear) itself. Described as a dark beauty with a bohemian spirit, she rejected the formal fashion of the 1950s to product designs that were detailed and beautiful yet easily wearable.
